Modestas Pitrenas is the music director and chief conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra since autumn, 2015. Conducts stage productions at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet. Leader of the Kaunas Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2011, chief conductor at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet from 2009 to 2014, holding the post of the guest chief conductor since then.

Laureate of international competitions. Lecturer at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Conducting Department since 2003, appointed Head of the respective department in 2015.

Modestas Pitrenas has conducted top Lithuanian, Latvian, and Russian orchestras; guest conductor in numerous projects in Germany. Conducted opera productions in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Moscow, St. Gallen, and Warsaw. Produced Arturs Maskats’ opera Valentina at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet and conducted the premiere. Modestas Pitrenas has conducted over fifteen CD recordings of choral and orchestral music.

Pitrenas studied choir and opera conducting at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, graduating with distinction in 1996. He has also graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as choral conductor and as symphony orchestra and opera conductor.
