The LNSO Foundation was established with the goal of providing a platform for meaningful involvement of the society in the development of the orchestra. Although the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra is a fully functioning, self-sustained ensemble, community initiative has a crucial role in ensuring the Orchestra’s growth. The LNSO Foundation organises various activities approved by the LNSO in order to attract external financing and administer donations for a specific purpose.
In 2016, the LNSO Foundation received the status of a public benefit organisation for charitable activities and the promotion of culture. This means that all donations to the LNSO Foundation for the support of these two areas are considered eligible expenditure and are deducted from the amount of annual taxable income according to Section 10(1)(3) of the Law on Personal Income Tax.
The main goals of the LNSO Foundation in 2020:
1. Organise at least two dress rehearsals for the LNSO’s concerts with participation of music school students from various regions of Latvia. The project will cover transportation costs to Riga for the students, as well as lunch, participation in the dress rehearsal for the LNSO concert, and a visit to another cultural institution in the same day.
2. Purchase a bassoon for the principal bassoon of the LNSO. The estimated total cost is EUR 30 000.
