Plamena Mangova won the 2nd place in the immensely challenging Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2007, setting her international career in motion. She performs with such conductors as Myung-Whun Chung, Andrew Davis, Jaap van Zweden, Dmitri Jurowski, Gilbert Varga, François-Xavier Roth, and Andris Poga. Plamena Mangova’s chamber music partners include Maria João Pires, Boris Berezovsky, Augustin Dumay, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Alexander Knyazev, and the Ysaÿe Quartet.
The pianist has received invitations to the Verbier Festival, Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano, La Folle Journée in Nantes, La Roque d’Anthéron Festival, Rostropovich Festival in Moscow and Baku, Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, Montpellier Radio France Festival, Bach Akademie Stuttgart, and other forums of international significance.
Plamena Mangova’s first solo recording of Shostakovich’s music received the annual Diapason d’Or award in 2007. Another recording of Shostakovich in an ensemble with soprano Tatiana Melnychenko, violinist Natalia Prischepenko, and cellist Sebastian Klinger earned the Superfonic Prize in Pizzicato magazine. Her recording of Beethoven was lauded by the France Musique radio station and the Diapason magazine. Mangova’s recording of Strauss’s Burleske and Brahms’s Piano Concerto no. 1 received high acclaim from Bryce Morrison of Gramophone. Her latest CD was recorded in duet with Alexander Kniazev and dedicated to Franck and Ysaÿe.
Over the 2017/2018 season, Plamena Mangova made her debut with the Staatskapelle Berlin, performed at the Maison de la Radio in Paris, at La Roque d’Anthéron Festival, at the Elbphilharmonie, at the Dubrovnik Festival, and in Jerusalem. She also taught workshops at the Park University in Cansas (USA).
Plamena has learned from such masters as Dmitri Bashkirov, Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Leon Fleisher, and András Schiff.
