Raivis Māgurs

Raivis Māgurs is a member of the LNSO since 2010. He also plays the tuba in the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Former member of the orchestra Rīga. He is a lecturer at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) since 2013.

Māgurs has attended workshops taught by Joost Smeets, James Gurley, Michael Lund, Peter van Klink, Patrick Krysatis, and others.

Former member of several ensembles, including Tubalogia and Magic 4.

Māgurs learned to play the tuba with Viesturs Rērihs at Kolka Music School, which he attended from 1993 to 1998. From 1998 to 2002, he continued mastering the tuba in Jāzeps Mediņš Music School in Riga, class of Gunārs Līcis. In 2006, he earned his bachelor’s degree in tuba playing from the JVLMA, class of associate professor Jānis Retenais, Department of Wind Brass and Percussions. Māgurs completed his master’s in 2008.
