Sergejs Brīnums

Sergejs Brīnums was the LNSO’s principal double bass from 1992 to 2005 and member of the orchestra since 1974.

He studied choral conducting at Emīls Dārziņš Music School and later switched to double bass at Jāzeps Mediņš Music School in Riga. He graduated from Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1974, class of Mikhail Kurbatov.

Working in music schools and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), Brīnums has trained many young double bassists who pursue careers in orchestras in Latvia and across Europe. In 2014, Brīnums received the JVLMA and Swedbank Annual Award as Best Teacher.
