Edgars Cīrulis

Edgars CĪRULIS is a Latvian composer, pianist, improviser, and arranger. He studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg. His main genres are contemporary music and jazz.

 

In 2019, in cooperation with musicians from Latvia, Denmark, Italy, and the USA, he released a storybook and recording Aisma, which was promoted in concerts in Denmark and Latvia. In 2016, Edgars and his ensemble Ainavisti released the album –. He is also an active member of the Equanimity Trio. He has performed with Mark Dresser, Marius Ungureanu, Jesper Løvdal, Kenneth Dahl Knudsen, Rokas Zubovas, and Ahto Abner, among others. He has performed with the Kenneth Dahl Knudsen Orchestra, ensembles UNIT and Skaggerak, and he has participated in festivals Saulkrasti Jazz, Rīgas ritmi, the Baltic Breeze, Den Blaa Festival, and the Festival of the Centennial Nations' Capitals.

 

Edgars Cīrulis studied with Andris Dzenītis, Raimonds Petrauskis, Soren Moller, Dave Berkman, Liudas Mockūnas, and others.

 

He received a nomination for Latvia’s Grand Music Award as New Artist of the Year 2020.
