Arigo Štrāls

Arigo Štrāls is the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s principal viola since 1995, and member of the orchestra since 1981. Received a master’s degree from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Principal viola of The Riga Chamber Players from the orchestra’s inception in 1988 until the end of its existence in 2006; participates in projects with the Nordic Symphony Orchestra, member of several chamber ensembles and chamber orchestras, performs Baroque music in concerts and recordings. Solo performances in Europe and Japan.

Arigo Štrāls has worked in several primary and secondary music schools across Latvia. Associate professor at the JVLMA. Štrāls has held workshops in Europe and South America. Jury member and president in international competitions in Latvia and abroad. Creative director of the Augusts Dombrovskis International Competition for young string musicians. Grand Music Award nominee in 2009 For Outstanding Work in an Ensemble.
