Artūrs Gailis

Artūrs GAILIS is a violist and conductor. Member of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Symphony Orchestra since 2014. Principal violist and member of the Sinfonietta Rīga chamber orchestra from 2011 to 2015. Former member of the baroque orchestra Collegium musicum Rīga. Laureate of chamber ensemble competitions, frequent performer in chamber music concert programmes. Former member of the LNSO, Latvian Festival Orchestra, Pärnu Festival Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as a soloist with the Sinfonia concertanteorchestra and Ventspils music school SO.

Gailis studied conducting at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the class of Viesturs Gailis. Having received his bachelor’s degree, he is continuing with master’s studies. He has received additional conducting training in workshops with Paavo Järvi, Leonid Grin, Neeme Järvi, Paul Mägi, Rossen Milanov, and Lutz Köhler.

Artūrs Gailis frequently assisted to Paavo Järvi in rehearsals and concerts in 2015. In 2017, he was the assistant conductor in the production of Osvaldo Golijov’s opera Ainadamar at the Cēsis Art Festival. This season, Artūrs makes his debut with Sinfonietta Rīga (in festival Cello Cēsis), with the LNSO (a programme for children in collaboration with LeNeSOn), and his own self-started orchestra B-Sharp.
