Artūrs Šults

Artūrs Šults is the principal French horn of the LNSO since 2009 and chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga since the orchestra was founded in 2006.

He won both first and second place in the Juris Jurjāns International Competition for Young Hornists, as well as first place in the Jurjānu Andrejs Competition. Former member of orchestra Rīga and the Liepāja SO, as well as Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) SO, chamber orchestra Konsonanse and Sinfonia Concertante, the Riga Festival Orchestra, the International Youth SO in Denmark, the Latvian National Opera Orchestra, and others.

Artūrs studied in Emīls Dārziņš Music School, class of Inga Kalniņa, and afterwards received his master’s from the JVLMA, class of Arvīds Klišāns. Additionally, he studied at Rotterdam University of the Arts with Martin van de Merwe in 2007. Šults has also attender workshops taught by Esa Tapani, Christian Lampert, Kalervo Kulmala, and Frøydis Ree Wekre. He has performed at the Tartu French Horn Days in Estonia. Artūrs is an active participant in chamber music projects and frequently collaborates with Latvian composers.
