Darja Smirnova

Darja SMIRNOVA is the LNSO’s assistant principal first violin since 2007. Darja was one of the co-creators of the Sinfonia concertante chamber orchestra, where she is a first violin and soloist since 2002.

Darja Smirnova was the concertmaster and soloist of the JVLMA students’ symphony orchestra from 2002 to 2006. Spent one season in the first violin section of the Sinfonietta Rīga orchestra. Former guest concertmaster at the Deutsche Radio Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern Symphony Orchestra.

Darja spent her study years as an active chamber musician and concertmaster in youth symphony and chamber orchestras. At present, frequently participates in youth projects as a tutor and concertmaster, including her latest endeavour – Latvia’s Centenary Youth Symphony Orchestra and the programme Born in Latvia.

Darja Smirnova was born in Kaliningrad. Darja’s family came to Latvia in 1982, and Darja enrolled in the Jelgava Secondary Music School in 1985, where she studied with Valērijs Avramenko. She later studied at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School with Dace Bērzāja and at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the class of Andris Baumanis and Valdis Zariņš in  her bachelor’s and master’s studies, respectively.
