The triumphant winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2015), Dmitry Masleev took the First Prize and the international spotlight with wholehearted support from the audience, the jury, and the media. The success of his first touring season has firmly established his profile as a “future great pianist” (La Croix) of “virtuoso brilliance” (The Financial Times) and “musicality of metaphysical proportions” (Neue Musikzeitung). It also inspired an ever-growing worldwide demand for his artistry.
Masleev’s Munich debut at the Philharmonie am Gasteig has already led to two re-engagments there: one with Prokofiev piano sonatas, streamed by Medici TV, the other with Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. The appearance at the Klavierfestival Ruhr was followed by recital
invitations from the Rheingau, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Bad Kissingen festivals. This season, Masleev makes his Berlin debut with Rachmaninoff Variations on the Theme of Paganini with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Robert Trevino.
“The display of virtuosity was offset by magical tenderness. The pianist offered a mix of virtuosity, understated brilliance, gripping imagination, and beautifully blended sound,” reports Mittelbayerische Zeitung on a recent performance.
In France, Masleev’s appearances at the Philharmonie de Paris, La Roque d’Anthéron and Beauvais piano festivals, and with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse have paved the way for a solo recital at Fondation Louis Vuitton and an Asian tour with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Mikko Franck.
Masleev’s orchestral collaborations also include a German tour with the National Philharmonic of Russia and Vladimir Spivakov, performances with the Bamberg Symphony and Christoph Eschenbach, and an artistic residence with SWR Orchestra Stuttgart.
In January 2017, Carnegie Hall presents Masleev’s recital debut at the Isaac Stern Auditorium.
“A discovery and a brilliant pianist”, is how Boris Berezovsky describes Dmitry Masleev. The two will give duo recitals in Moscow later in the season, playing the music of Bartok and Liszt.
Born and raised in Ulan-Ude (a Siberian town between Lake Baikal and the Mongolian border), Masleev was educated at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Mikhail Petukhov, and at the International Music Academy at Lake Como.
