Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius established a group of young musicians in 1988 and organized the first concert audience on January 30th, 1989. With the unfading energy, original programs, and great mastery the orchestra entered to Lithuanian cultural life and was named the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra on January 30, 1999. Celebrating ten years anniversary of creative work the orchestra played its first concert in the new 1000 seats Vilnius Congress Concert Hall, the largest metropolitan academic concert hall.

This team has developed its own traditions, whose essential features – unique thematic programmes, Lithuanian symphonic scores premieres, concert and stage opera performances.  For Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra unique mission and exclusive event was to perform all symphonies by Mahler and Beethoven.

The orchestra’s intensive life is testified by impressive numbers of concerts. The orchestra played more than 1000 concerts in Lithuania and abroad. The LSSO has participated in prestigious festivals as the Warsaw Autumn, Europamusicale Munich, Chichester Festival a. o. Along with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra regularly
