Maija Zandberga

Flutist Maija Zandberga has played together with the LNSO since 2015. Maija was born in Riga and learned to play the flute at Emīls Dārziņš Music School, graduating in 2011 (class of Silva Krašauska-Krauze). She enrolled in the Maastricht Academy of Music, earning her bachelor’s and master’s cum laude with professor Philippe Benoit. Maija represented her university in the Grachten competition in Amsterdam, as well as Uitmarkt festival, performing at Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw. She has attended workshops with Peter‑Lukas Graf, James Galway, Emily Beynon, Gudrun Hinze, as well as other experts of flute and piccolo. Additionally, Maija studied ensemble performance from 2017 to 2019, earning a master’s with distinction in wind chamber ensemble from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

In 2012, Maija had the opportunity to practice alongside Limburg Symphony Orchestra, and she won the second place in the Adams Dutch International Flute Competition in 2013.

Maija is an active participant of orchestral as well as chamber music projects. She shares her knowledge and skills, teaching at Emīls Dārziņš Music School (National School of Arts of the Vocational Education Competence Center of Latvia), as well as Pāvuls Jurjāns Music School.
