Young Russian conductor Maxim Emelyanychev (1988) grew up in a family of musicians. He went to the Choral College of Nizhny Novgorod and Balakirev College of Music and later studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Gennady Rozhdestvensky. He made his conductor’s debut at the age of 12 and has been conducting symphonic and Baroque orchestras in Russia and abroad ever since.

Maxim joined the period music ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro in 2011 as a harpsichord player and became the ensemble’s principal conductor in 2016. He is also the principal conductor of the Nizhny Novgorod Youth SO. In 2018, Emelyanychev conducted the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, substituting for Robin Ticciati due to his sudden illness. As a result of the successful performance, the orchestra selected Emelyanychev as their next principal conductor starting from the 2019/2020 season.

The 2019/2020 season sees Emelyanychev’s collaboration with the LNSO as well as debuts with the Konzerthausorkester Berlin, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria and the Seattle Symphony; his first appearance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and Glyndebourne Festival, and his return to the
