Mihails Čuļpajevs
Tenor Mikhail CHULPAYEV is one of the leading soloists at the Latvian National Opera. In addition to his superb vocal mastery, Mikhail’s acting talent ensures convincing performance of a variety of roles.
The singer was nominated for Latvia’s Grand Music Award as New Artist of the Year 2015; he received the Latvian National Opera Foundation annual award as the Best Opera Soloist in 2017.
Chulpayev is an amateur acrobat and a master of emotion – a curious, yet solid foundation for his powerful opera debut in 2013, singing Truffaldino in Sergei Prokofiev’s opera The Love for Three Oranges. Other roles followed: Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville), Lensky, Remendado (Carmen), Brūkūzītis (Zigmars Liepiņš’ The Rose of Turaida), Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser), and Tom Rakewell (Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress).
Mikhail Chulpayev has performed at the Royal Concertgebouw concert hall in Amsterdam, Maastricht’s Opera Zuid, and other Dutch venues. He is also a member of the Tenor Trio with Juris Vizbulis and Raimonds Bramanis.
Chulpayev is a cast member of all three new productions at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet of the current season: Steersman in Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman, Beppe in Montemezzi and Leoncavallo’s opera diptych L’incantesimo. Pagliacci, and Chevalier de la Force in Poulenc’s opera Dialogues of the Carmelites.
