Modestas Barkauskas

Lithuanian conductor Modestas BARKAUSKAS is the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Vilnius City Municipality St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra. He began his career as choral conductor, studying at the Šiauliai Conservatory and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and later studied orchestra conducting as well.

 

In 2009, he made his debut at the Klaipėda State Music Theatre and has since then conducted La Traviata, The Barber of Seville, Die Fledermaus, and other productions. In 2012, Barkauskas conducted at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre for the first time, starting with Tristan and Isolde, The Elixir of Love, and The Nutcracker.

 

Barkauskas has performed with the Lithuanian National SO, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Kaunas SO, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre SO, and others. Additionally, Barkauskas has been the music director and conductor of the Vilnius Balys Dvarionas Music School Youth SO since 2008; lecturer at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Department of Conducting and Department of Choral Conducting since 2013.

 

In 2016, he was awarded the Golden Cross – Lithuania’s top theatre award. In 2017, he earned the 3rd place in the 10th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice, Poland.
