Oskars Bokanovs

Oskars Bokanovs is the principal double bass of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra since 2017. Laureate of several international competitions for double bass players – winner of competitions in Brno (2010) and Blatná (2016), also received awards in competitions in Holice (2016, Czech Republic) and Wrocław (2016, Poland). Oskars received the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and Swedbank Annual Award for young musicians in 2014, during his study years.

Former member of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet orchestra. As a member of the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra, Oskars has performed with Gidon Kremer, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Mario Brunello, among others. Solo performances with the Sinfonia concertante orchestra and the JVLMA SO. Current double bass player in the band Arcandela.

Oskars began his musical journey as a cellist at Emīls Dārziņš Music School. He started learning the double bass with Einārs Upatnieks, enrolled in the JVLMA where he studied in the class of Sergejs Brīnums, and received a master’s degree from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he studied in the class of Miloslav Jelínek.
