Oskars Bokanovs

OSKARS BOKANOVS has been the principal double bass of the Latvian
National Symphony Orchestra since 2017. Lecturer at JVLAM. Winner of
several international competitions. During his studies, Bokanovs received the JVLAM and Swedbank Annual Award for young musicians of 2014. Former member of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra. As a member of the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra, he has performed with Gidon Kremer, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, and Mario Brunello, among others. Solo performances with the Sinfonia concertante orchestra and the JVLAM SO. He is the double bass
player of the band Arcandela, as well as a founder member of the Riga Double Bass Quartet. Oskars began his musical journey as a cellist at Emīls Dārziņš Music School. He started learning the double bass with Einārs Upatnieks, enrolled in the JVLAM, where he studied in the class of Sergejs Brīnums, and received a master’s degree from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he
studied in the class of Miloslav Jelínek.

 

Oskars began his musical journey as a cellist at Emīls Dārziņš Music School. He started learning the double bass with Einārs Upatnieks, enrolled in the JVLAM, where he studied in the class of Sergejs Brīnums, and received a master’s degree from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he studied in the class of Miloslav Jelínek.
